Steve Miller Is Going To Be Sad

While not considered a “top-level” MMORPG, the announcement was made last week that the FTP Space Cowboy will be shutting down December 26, 2007.

Space Cowboy servers will be shutting down on 12/26/2007. Gala-Net cares deeply for our users, and we wish to provide those who have supported us with various forms of reimbursement. E-mails will be sent out in the coming weeks to your respective email addresses detailing any reimbursements that your account is eligible for.

I actually played SC for a brief period, and while it really didn’t blow my skirt up (especially the chiffon one with the ruffles), it was a quality MMORPG for those looking for an anime/flight simulator/air combat/science fiction MMO. (And you thought EVE was a niche’ game.)

Some people call this pilot Maurice.

As part of the gPotato family of “item shop” RMT games, it obtained a bit more popularity in Asian markets, but it’s still sad to see a labor of love die.

Space Cowboy joins Auto Assault, Seed, Tales of Eternia Online, and Philipine Rose in taking the pixellated dirt nap in 2007.

This, of course, means the end of the MMORPG genre’. (I believe that’s what I’m supposed to say here…at least that’s what I see pop up every time a game sunsets.)
