Mythos Does Something Unexpected
In case you haven’t heard of Mythos, it’s a free-to-play Diablo-style MMORPG (complete with isometric third-person graphics) which has fans of the Blizzard series buzzing. Developed by Flagship Studios, Mythos has been in closed beta for a while, and has hinted that open beta is coming soon…possibly as soon as April, which of course ends in three days.
I don’t think open beta is going to begin in April; call me a pessimist if you like.
However, this may be one of the best reasons for extending the development process I’ve ever seen. The development team has made one teensy, small change to Mythos, which will change the game in a very fundamental way.
It’ll be easier to show you. Mythos as current beta testers have come to know it:
And the new Mythos as the Flagship Studios developer known as “tbaldree” teased on the official forums:
And no, they’re not kidding. Apparently, they’ve taken the game and changed it from the isometric “Diablo-style” perspective and put in the option to play the game in the more familiar “over the shoulder” 3D perspective.
Like I said…a SMALL change. Minuscule. Barely noticeable.
In all seriousness, this will make Mythos appeal to a larger group of players, as there are some that simply can’t abide the “old style” isometric perspective (which is still the default option in Mythos, for those that prefer that style…you have to turn the “3D” on).
If done well, this could catapault Mythos into the upper-echelon of FTP MMOs…of course, only time will tell.

That IS pretty sweet! I’d actually give that a go, and it looks great for a free MMO.
