It’s Like Amway and Pogo Had A Child…

Are you excited yet? If not, then read this with an appropriately (and, in my opinion, justified) condescending sneer on your face. If you ARE excited by the headline above, then boy, is this your lucky day.

Apparently, someone had the brilliant idea to combine all the classiness of multi-level marketing strategies (think “Amway” and “Melaleuca“, but lower-rent) with the convenience of a slapped-together portal that’s going to offer the same things as MySpace, Pogo.com, AIM and the lottery, (which each took a crack team of dedicated coders and designers quite a bit of time, effort and money to initialize) with the exception that you’ll make millions!!! Don’t believe me? Let’s just look at some of the details:

By pre-registering today, you will:
  • Discover a market growing four times faster than the Internet;
  • Learn how having fun, being entertained and social networking can earn you money!
  • Be one of the first to learn how this powerful business, using a simple system, can earn you a fortune!
  • That’s right…this thing is growing four times faster than the Internet! And how fast is that? Pretty darn fast, that’s how fast. And how about this gem:

    The market today (2007) is approximately worth $164 USD per second ($5.2 billion USD annually), and in the next 156 weeks is expected to grow to $412 USD per second of every minute of every day, and growing.

    Whew. $164 per second. That’s…that’s, like…a lot. And since it’s growing four times as fast as the internet, that means the entire rest of the web is only worth $41 per second…hardly a good deal. And get this…all you have to do is sign up for free! And you get really cool games!

    Games to be included are :
    Action Games, Shoot em up, Physical Games, Puzzle Games Jungle Bubble, 3 of a Kind, Word Games, Obliterate, Card Games, Strategy games, Checkers, Backgammon, Ma Jong
    Jigsaw wars, Sport Games, 8 ball Pool, 9 ball pool, Football Basketball, Snowboarding ….more to follow.. Around 30 games will be available with more being introduced along the way.

    So, to make money, you are relying on a playerbase that’s looking for all the excitement of Yahoo Games, without that needless “free” part.

    Of course, this is a twist on the same basic philosophy MMO companies use when giving out “buddy keys”…getting you to market the game for them. Mind you, these people are so confident in their business plan that they felt the need to register a seperate domain to explain that they are, in fact, not a scam…and then hit you over the head with more hype.

    Don’t get me wrong…there are some people that love these kinds of things…I even know a couple that claim to have made some money from MLM schemes. However, it gives me the creeping willies.

    (Note: No, there’s not a link anywhere in this post that leads to the actual offer…I refuse to enable this kind of thing. If you like, feel free to look it up…Google still works like a charm. However, for the “other side” of the story, you might want to click on the uVme logo at the top of this post…it leads to a thread on the Motley Fool forums discussing this setup.)
