April Fools’ Day 2008 - MMORPG-Style
Another year, another overblown day of mostly forced frivolity on the internet.
Let’s hit some of the high points of yesterday’s hilarity and hijinks.
Blizzard…these guys tend to go whole-Hogger when it comes to April Fools’ Day each year, and 2008 was no exception, including the new player class…Bard.
Am I the only one that would actually resub to roll one of these?
Also from the minds of Blizzard, the announcement that World of Warcraft is coming to a console…the Atari 2600.
But Blizz wasn’t the only one to bring out the April trickery. In my opinion, Turbine did a great job with their new player class for the new expansion “The Battle of Amon Hen”…chickens.
My personal favorite of the new features is the “One-Shot Recipe’: Yourself”.
City of Heroes is introducing an innovative feature…Visual Sounds.
Have a taste of Freedom sans the “do”.
A quick rundown of some of the others in the wonderful world of gaming:
- Age of Conan announced a new player race…Elves, who appear to rock, except for the severe suckage.
- Meanwhile, over in Tabula Rasa Land….well, all I can say is “Poor Buster.”
- Eve Online announced a new RMT system for all ammo…and the removal of the ability to manufacture ammo in-game, “to avoid confusion.”
- SWGalaxies.net leaked the new expansion being developed for Star Wars:Galaxies…Hoth.
- RuneHQ announced a bogus update for Runescape, which is probably hilarious to someone that plays the game and can therefore understand what they’re saying.
- NetDevil, developers of the upcoming Jumpgate:Evolution, announced an official name change to “NetAngel”, to establish “a clearer link to our commitment to make immersive and socially responsible massively multiplayer online games.”
I’m sure there are more, and I’ll add them to this post when/if I run across them. I would like to apologize to Keen, since he did this first, but to be honest, this entire post was written just so I could use the “whole-Hogger” line.
Yes, I am that pitiful.
